The world premier of Spirit Catcher will be taking place at the 70-painting career retrospective of Tom Gilleon at Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West.
A master of color and composition, R. Tom Gilleon manipulates formal elements to depict time-honored Western themes in new and inventive ways. His evocative perceptions of reality feature bold luminous color and economy of detail. His trademark tipi paintings suggest a mythical glow, as if illuminated by the moon or glowing embers within.
The Gilleon show will feature two digital canvas artworks, both collaborations with Marshall Monroe, inventor of the PIXoils™ Digital Canvas platform.
Spirit Catcher is a monumental 22-minute digital triptych featuring landscapes, portraiture, and various visual transformations, all integrated with an original multi-dimensional sound score.
The work contains images taken by famed photographer Edward S. Curtis, re-interpreted in vivid contemporary color and painterly texture.
The show will also include single-panel masterworks Hungry Fox Equinox, Fort Mountain, and Flute of the Loon.
PIXoils™ digital canvas artworks are shown in Montana, Wyoming, and in various private, corporate, and museum collections. Monumental editions can be found in the permanent collections of the C.M. Russell Museum in Great Falls, MT, and in the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, GA.
